Reflecting on Frida

On #WorldMentalHealthDay, I reflected on Frida Kahlo, one who endured mental illness both publicly and privately with a gift for channeling her depression into artwork that has stood the test of time.

Mental illness looks like many things, it may look like nothing at all. But an unwillingness to acknowledge and address potential signs and symptoms or take into account risk factors in the lives of those around us helps no one.

De-stigmatize mental health issues by being bold, bold in sharing how you really feel when someone asks how you’re doing, bold in having difficult conversations, bold in demanding we create and hold space for each other, so we can stop just “holding it together.” I believe on the other side of this is Life.
